

Kay was born on November 19, 1923, in “God’s country” on her family farm near Royal, Iowa. She was a graduate of Rossie High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Kay and her sweetheart, Lee Anderson, had a long distance courtship during WWII. During a brief furlough they were married November 26, 1944, at the Swedish Lutheran Church near Royal, Iowa.
Following Lee’s discharge from the Army Air Corps Kay taught school in Cambridge, Iowa, while Lee attended Iowa State University.
Kay loved her family, animals, birds, gardening, cooking, sewing and shopping. She was a kind and generous person.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; her parents, Emma and G. Adolf Gustafson; brother, Edgar Gustafson, and sister, Linnea Gustafson Hamilton. She is survived by her sons, Kent (Becky) Anderson of Cedar Falls, Karl (Kathy) Anderson of Ankeny, daughter, Kathryn Arndt of Polk City; her grandchildren, Joel (Katrina) Anderson of Chicago, Ben (Megan) Anderson of Hudson, IA, Tim (Yeran) Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD, Emily (Paul) Shockley of Grand Junction, CO, Elizabeth Arndt of Polk City, John (Jessica) Anderson of Ankeny and Bryan (Emily) Arndt of Clive; and great-grandchildren, Gabe, Noah, Autumn, Kylar and Axel.
Memorials may be directed to Mill-Pond Retirement Community, the A-Heinz 57 Pet Rescue in DeSoto, or directed to the family to be contributed to other charities.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ankeny Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held December 20th, and interment of ashes at the Iowa Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be held in the Spring of 2015.
