

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Ankeny Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Born on May 22, 1941 in Burlington, IA, Larry Raymond Ruschill was the son of Raymond and Vivia (Daniels) Ruschill. He grew up in Mediapolis, IA and received his education graduating in the class of 1959. The September following graduation Larry enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Navy earning the rank of E-4. Following his active duty Larry met a young lady named Barbara Stratton. The couple was united in marriage on September 23, 1961 in Burlington and are blessed with two sons, Douglas and Kevin.
Larry began his career at the Burlington Police Department and earned the rank of Lieutenant Assistant Chief. He later took a position with Fluor Corp. and worked his way to Senior Safety Manager which is where he retired.
Larry was an avid NASCAR fan and could be seen at many of the Newton Speedway races. He also enjoyed watching western movies and tried to take in as many Iowa Hawkeye athletic events as possible. Most of all, Larry was a family man who loved spending time with Barb, his boys, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who all held a special place in his heart.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 53 years, Barb; sons, Douglas (Linda) Ruschill of West Des Moines, and Kevin (Tracy) Ruschill of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Brandon, Zachary, Mackenzie, Joe, Krista, and Erica; great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Jackson, Laila, and Stella; sister, Linda Ballenger; sister-in-law, Carol (Dan) Tackleson; niece, Shelly Stout; and a nephew, Daniel Tackleson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Greg Maass.
