

She was born February 16, 1926 in Lewistown, Montana. Lyla graduated from Tabor High School in 1944. She was a loving daughter, devoted wife, a caring mother, wonderful grandmother, and a good friend. Her passions included sewing and tending to her garden.
She will be missed by her daughters, Patricia Nelson of Ankeny, IA, and Lea (Larry) Kraft (Saint Peters, Mo.); granddaughter, Cathy (Markus) Farlow; grandson, Christopher Nelson; granddaughter-in-law, Rachel Williams; great granddaughter, Samantha Williams; great grandson, Alexander Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Frederick Bird, both parents and many aunts and uncles.
A visitation will be held from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Ankeny Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:45 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, in Saint Louis, MO. with a burial to follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Saint Louis, MO.
Memorial contributions in memory of Lyla may be directed to the Five Acre Animal Shelter at 1099 Pralle Lane, St. Charles, MO 63303.
