

A visitation, the service, and a luncheon will be held at Ankeny United Church of Christ on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The visitation will start at 10:00 a.m., and the service will be at 11:30 a.m. with the luncheon to follow.
Mark was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 22, 1958 to Joseph Cornell Brandhorst and Janet Eileen (Bruckner) Brandhorst.
Participating in marching band, cross country, and track, and as a member of National Honor Society, he graduated from Ritenour Senior High in 1977. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science from Drake University in 1981. He worked for the State of Iowa Insurance Division for over 30 years before proudly retiring early in 2014.
Mark loved spending time with his grandkids and going to their various activities. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He was a Drake University Bulldog Club member and longtime men’s basketball season ticket holder, always looking forward to games. He was an avid league and tournament bowler and enjoyed competing in his fantasy baseball league, poker games, and maintaining and swimming in his pool.
He participated in Boy Scouts of America, starting as a cub scout and earning the top rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity at Drake University and a member of Ankeny United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Sally (Rogers) Brandhorst of Ankeny, Iowa; daughter, Jessica Brandhorst (Surfairr Coleman) of Oshawa, Canada; son, Daniel Brandhorst (Molly) of Bondurant, Iowa; grandchildren, Brynn, Cole, and Parker Brandhorst of Bondurant, Iowa; mother, Janet Brandhorst of St. Ann, Missouri; and sister, Kim Hood (Kirk) of Bellville, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Brandhorst; sister, Vickie Durham; and brother, Baby Boy Brandhorst.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Animal Rescue League, a cancer organization, a hospice organization, or Ankeny United Church of Christ (Ankeny, Iowa).
