

Mary Doubleday, 98, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016 at Mill Pond in Ankeny, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Ankeny. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
Mary was born January 7, 1918 on a farm north of Ankeny to Arch and Sara (Spahr) Howard. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1935. Mary attended Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines in 1937. Mary was united in marriage to Arthur James Doubleday on December 14, 1938 in St. Joseph, Missouri. The family moved to Ankeny in the early 1940’s. Mary was a dedicated farm wife and also was employed at the Ankeny Post Office as a clerk.
Mary was the oldest living member of Ankeny First United Methodist Church. She also belonged to Women’s Church Society, Martha Circle and the Ankeny Historical Society. She loved to play cards and attend family gatherings. She was an avid sports fan and followed all Ankeny sports and loved watching her beloved Iowa State Cyclone basketball and football teams.
Mary is survived by her son, Robert (Margie) Doubleday of Lake Havasu, AZ; daughter, Judi (Jim) Logan; 2 grandchildren: Robert (Janis) Logan and Andrew (Lori) Logan; 4 great-grandchildren: Breanna, Leah, Tate and Tiernan, all of Ankeny; in addition, she enjoyed many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, parents, siblings, Bob Howard, Gladys Anderson, Maxine Howell and Jeanie Tomlinson.
