Nellie Banwell

Nellie S. Banwell, 48, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E 1st St, Ankeny, IA 50021). Family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter,IA.

Nellie was born in Bontoc, Philippines, and raised in Baguio City, the daughter of Errol Comafay and Linda Sumcad. She was united in marriage to Shane Banwell on October 3, 1988 in Angeles City, Philippines. They moved to Georgia in 1991 for Shane’s military work. While in Ankeny, Nellie spent her time working at Mill Pond and most recently as a valued team member at Target.

Nellie was very tidy and enjoyed cleaning and gardening in her past time. She also spent time bowling, socializing on Facebook, shopping, and cooking. Nellie’s children will always remember eating her home-made fried rice and other various dishes all made from scratch. Most importantly, Nellie enjoyed spending quality time with her friends and family.

Nellie is survived by her husband, Shane Banwell of Ankeny, daughters Anna Banwell of Bellevue, NE and Amber Banwell of Ankeny; Mother, Linda Sumcad of the Philippines; sisters, Femia and Feryn Notario Miranda and brother, Jhunjhun Notario. She is preceded in death by her father, Errol.
