A Rosary Service will be held at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 West First Street, Ankeny, IA 50023, on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by a Visitation at the same location on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
A Funeral will take place at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 West First Street, Ankeny, IA 50023, on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:15 am, with a Time of Food and Fellowship to follow at the same location on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
Paul will be laid to rest at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fairmont, Minnesota at a later date.
Paul was born on October 23, 1965, in Huntington, Indiana to Joseph William and Caroline Elizabeth (Pratt) Wonderly. He graduated from Benilde St. Margarets High School in 1984. After high school, he worked for Mr. Steak in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Then he started working for Wholesale Supply in Minnetonka, Minnesota. After that he worked for Air Management in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and was transferred to Ankeny to open a new branch. Then he worked for Restaurant Technologies in Des Moines. In the last ten years he has been the Facilities Manager for Children & Families of Iowa in Des Moines. He met Paige Allyson (Winzenburg) Hartwig and they were united in marriage on May 26, 2012, at Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota.
Paul dearly loved bowling and he was in two leagues every year. Paul loved smoking cigars with his bowling buddies. He was very proud of his 298-bowling game. Paul was a gun enthusiast and loved watching F1 racing and Star Trek. Favorite music to listen to was Led Zepplin and he was the best air guitarist and drummer in the world. He loved working on vehicles. His most important roles were being a husband, a grandfather, and papa to his dog, Max. He was a boy scout growing up and he belonged to the United States Bowling Congress. Paul was a general handy man and loved taking on projects for himself and family. He was always someone who would help other people if he could.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Paige; his best friend, Max, his mother, Caroline Elizabeth Wonderly; his brother, Brian (Kathy) Wonderly and their two sons, Aaron (Brenda) Wonderly and their children, LouElla and Arro, and Cory (Kelsie) Wonderly; his sister, Amy (Tom) Beaven and their children, Ben and Jon; his step-sons, Justin (Jill) Winzenburg and their children, Theo and Lukas, and Jordan (Sara) Winzenburg and their children, Cian and Shaylee; a step-daughter, Holly (Todd) Quist and their daughter, Allie; his father-in-law, Ron Hartwig; and brothers-in-law, Blaine Hartwig and his children, Samantha (Hartwig) Tietema (Shawn) and Samantha's children, Olivia, Addison, and Amela, and Tyler and Tyler's daughter, Lily, and Cade (Beth) Hartwig and their children, McKayla, Hailey, Carter and Gavin, and many other extended family members and friends. Paul is preceded in death by his father, Joseph William Wonderly; his mother-in-law, Joan Hartwig; his maternal and paternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
