

Robert “Bob” Earl Frye, 92, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022, at MercyOne Hospice in Johnston surrounded by family and loved ones. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Ankeny Funeral Home. Memorial graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Riverside Mausoleum in Marshalltown.
Bob was born and raised in Green Mountain/Marshalltown. At age 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving in the Korean War, he returned to Marshalltown, working as a farmer and mechanic. While working as a mechanic at UPS he was promoted to Automotive Manager for the Des Moines hub in 1983 which prompted the move to Ankeny. He took pride in keeping the Brown package cars on the road and delivering packages. After 22 years with UPS, he retired in 1992.
Bob was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He owned a cabin in “God’s Country” Baudette, MN where he spent many summers enjoying time with family and friends. He loved to watch and cheer on his two favorite teams the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs and was fortunate to see the Cubs win a World Series.
He is survived by his children, Chris (Julie) Frye, Mark (Helena) Frye, Teddie (Glenn) Hillygus and Jerry (Gail) Frye; two brothers Rudy Frye and Ronnie Frye; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Frye; parents, Everett and Sophia Frye; and his sister, Beverly Risius.
