Robert (Bob) Amandus Kracht passed away on March 2, 2012 at Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny due to complications from pneumonia. Visitation will be 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2012 with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 SE Sharon Drive in Ankeny. Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Westside Cemetery in Westside, Iowa.
Bob was born August 26, 1922 to Amandus and Catherine Kracht south of Arcadia. He was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Westside High School and then joined the Navy as a pharmacist’s mate in 1941 and was discharged in 1945. He was married on November 30, 1944 to Rowene Caroline Brockman. They farmed North of Westside for 20-years. Bob was an insurance salesman for Sentry Insurance in Verona, Wisconsin and also owned and operated the Verona Motel for five years before returning to Ankeny, IA. After retirement, they moved to Carroll, IA and later returned to Ankeny in 2001.
Bob is survived by his wife, Rowene, of 67 years and his children Zoy Beck (Stanley), Mooresville, IN; Steven (Lynn) of Winter Springs, FL; Linn (Colleen), Battle Creek, MI; Chanda Hensen (Paul), Galesburg, IL; Cory, Ankeny, IA; Hutch (Julie), Grinnell, IA; and 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.
Bob was an avid sports fan. He was a lifetime Lutheran and most recently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ankeny, IA. He and Rowene enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing cards and most importantly, spending time with their family and friends.
