Roger Dean Tscherter, age 69, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away on Christmas morning, December 25, 2020 from organ failure. A visitation with the family will take place on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 from 5 - 8 pm at Ankeny Funeral Home in Ankeny, Iowa. Funeral services will take place the next day, December 31, 2020 at 1 pm at Ankeny Funeral Home. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date.

Roger was born July 16, 1951 in Fairfield, Iowa to Donald and Genevieve (Hall) Tscherter, and was the third of six children. Roger graduated from Ankeny High School in the class of 1969. Roger was a hard worker from a young age. For most of his career, he was employed with the City of Ankeny and retired in 2009. He never knew a stranger and loved talking with people. He had a great memory and always had a story or a joke to tell. Roger was a very giving person, and would do anything for anyone if he could.

Roger married Carol Hildreth in 1974 and together raised two daughters, Kristin and Karen; but later divorced. He was an avid Hot Wheels collector and loved Chevys, especially Corvettes. His favorite pastime was taking a drive, with no destination, but enjoyed waving at friends as he drove by. Roger enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren and was an Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Bears fan.

Roger is survived by his daughters, Kristin Johnston and Karen (Chad) Logsdon; four grandchildren, Braden and Ashlyn Johnston, Jackson Ulery and Nikolas Logsdon with a great grand baby on the way; two sisters, Cathy Wade and Nancy Boehm; many nieces and nephews; and his father. He was preceded in death by his mom, Jennie; brothers, Steve (Carol) and Jeff Tscherter; and sister, Donna Johnson.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AnkenyFuneralHome.com for the Tscherter family.

My condolences to the family.
I lived next-door to the Tscherter’s my entire childhood through school and was always over at their house.
Many great memories growing up with them all, and always remember Roger as a great guy.
Many fun times, like when we went along with him to the drag races in Eddyville and then on the way back stopping for pizza at The leaning Tower of Pizza was always a lot of fun.
He will be missed but always remembered as a nice guy.

Nancy
I was so sorry to read of Roger’s passing in the paper this morning. When Roger walked into a room it seemed like his presence was almost bigger than life. I remember with a smile on my face all the “fun grief” your brothers used to give you but I know the strong bond that you each shared as a family prevailed even more!
May his memory be eternal. Prayers of strength and peace for you in the days ahead.

Sending my sincere condolences to Roger's family. Our common ground was growing up near each other in Ankeny and our siblings being friends. A heartbreaking loss and I pray he did not suffer.

Gee, I didn't see this coming. Roger was larger than life and I always came away from him with a smile. Now that we have moved away, I miss running into him from time to time. Several times this year I was going to call him to say HI, and now it's too late. Lesson learned. Roger, thanks for the many memories. May hot wheels speed you on your way. We send our heartfelt sympathy to Roger's family. Roger knew & liked & remembered everyone. He loved his family, his hobbies, his friends & classmates and his hometown, Ankeny. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to Roger whenever we'd meet, but especially at Alan's class reunions. He had an encyclopedic memory & was an Ankeny historian extraordinaire. He will be greatly & sadly missed.

Kristin and Karen,

So sorry to hear of your dads passing. This is tough and I’m thinking of you both. I have so many good memories of growing up at each other’s houses. I just watched an old home movie recently where us girls were putting on a fashion show for all of our parents. Oh where does the time even go?! Love you both. Holding you in my thoughts and prayers.

Tscherter family, I am so sorry for your loss. Roger would always wave when he went by and we'd chat about once a year. He had such knowledge about Ankeny, a great memory! He will be missed
