Ronald Ray Green

Ray was born December 28, 1947, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Harry Ray and Darlene (Johnson) Green. He graduated from Creston High School in 1965, proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and continued his education at Southwest Community College in Osceola and Drake University in Des Moines.

On June 21, 1987, Ray married Barbara Lynn Modisett at their family home in Agency, Iowa. Ray and Barbara shared 35 years of marriage before her passing on November 15, 2022.

A man who was never afraid of hard work, Ray spent most of his life as an auto mechanic. He later took to the road as an over-the-road truck driver, a career he continued until his retirement.

Music, however, was one of the great passions of Ray’s life. A lifelong drummer, Ray spent many years behind a drum kit playing with numerous bands, most notably Flashback. Music took him to stages both large and small, and over the years he had the opportunity to open for nationally known performers like John Michael Montgomery and Brooks & Dunn. Whether he was playing for a packed crowd or simply making music with friends, drumming was more than a hobby for Ray—it was a part of who he was. The friendships, stories, and memories he made through music stayed with him throughout his life.

As much as Ray loved music, his family held the most important place in his life. He treasured the years spent with those he loved and the memories they made together.

Ray is survived by his son, Nathan (Sarah) Green; two stepchildren, Tifani (Joe) Young and Donald (Wendy) McMartin; grandchildren, Kayla, Jordan (Mark), Cassidy (Tommy), Josie (Aric), CJ, Sam, Noah, Taylor, and Johnathan; and great-grandchildren, Liam, Lettie, Baker, and Jemma.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Lynn Green; his parents, Harry Ray and Darlene Green; and his son, Harry Garth Green.

Ray lived a life filled with hard work, music, family, and countless stories gathered along the way. Those who knew him will remember the man behind the drum kit, the miles he traveled, the work of his hands, and, most importantly, the place he held in the lives of his family and friends. His beat may have ended, but the memories and rhythm he leaves behind will carry on in the people who loved him.
