A Celebration of Life will be held at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 West First Street, Ankeny, IA 50023, on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Then family and friends will go in procession to Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
A Committal with Military Funeral Honors will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Dr, Adel, IA 50003, on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 12:45 pm. There will be a Time of Food and Fellowship immediately following the committal service at the Van Meter American Legion Post 403, 910 Main Street, Van Meter, Iowa 50261.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970. After his time in the Navy, he built a long career with Qwest Communications (formerly known as Northwestern Bell) before retiring.
Steve’s greatest legacy is the family he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife, Christina Moore; his two daughters, Staci (Jeff) Crees and Carrie (Andy) Newell; his grandchildren, Nick (Mint) Newell, Amber Crees, Allison Crees, Sam Newell, Devin (Rachel) Crees, and Isaac (Sophia) Newell, and his sister, Mary (João) Neves.
Steve will be deeply missed by his family and by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life, love, and memories will live on through his family.
