

Virgil L. Rohlf, 80, died Friday, December 31, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church in Ankeny. Private interment will be in Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Virgil was born February 14, 1930 to Julius and Sophia Rohlf in Swea City, Iowa. He married Marjorie Kollasch on June 21, 1955. Virgil worked thirty-one years for the USDA—ASCS and served on the National Workload Committee. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award and retired as the Administrative Officer of Iowa for ASCS. In his retirement Virgil worked at Community State Bank and Ankeny Funeral Home. Virgil was a Past Grand Knight of the Ankeny Knights of Columbus, a member of the Fourth Degree Dowling Assembly, and a Charter member of the Ankeny chapter of St. Vincent DePaul.
Virgil is survived by his wife Marjorie Rohlf; sons, Brian Rohlf of Des Moines, Michael (Kim) Rohlf of Ankeny, Kenneth Rohlf of Kansas City; son-in-law James Hutchins; four grandchildren, Katelyn Rohlf, Cody Rohlf, Alexander Hutchins, and David Hutchins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Vicki Rohlf Hutchins; and his sister, Irene Simonsmeier.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ankeny conference of St. Vincent DePaul or Link Associates.
The family thanks Father Steve Orr and Father Leonard Kenkel for their support through this difficult time. They also thank the doctors, nurses and technicians at Mercy Medical Center.
