

William Charles Hiney, age 76, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. A visitation will take place on July 15, 2025, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Ankeny Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service and luncheon following the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am.
William "Butch" Hiney was born on April 29, 1949, to William and Arlene Hiney in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1967. Soon after graduation, Butch joined the United States Marine Corps. While serving in the Marine Corps, William spent time in Vietnam during the war. He was incredibly proud of his time in the Marines and everything he accomplished. After serving his time in the military, William decided to work for the United States Postal Service and was a dedicated Letter Carrier at the Fairgrounds Annex in Des Moines and later, the Pleasant Hill Post Office. He was also a proud member of the NALC Union.
After retirement, Butch loved traveling in his RV. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether that was hunting, fishing, or even camping. William loved spending time with his family and his dogs whenever he had the chance to. He enjoyed watching football and especially loved rooting on Penn State! He used his time to help better the lives of others. William believed in the simple act of volunteering and helping people any way he could. Bill was an avid volunteer with the United Way, animal rescue and welfare groups, DAV, PVA, and any group that was short a working hand.
William "Butch" is survived by his children, William "Bill" (Shelley) Hiney of Baxter, IA, Eric (Julie) Hiney of Ankeny, IA, and Jennifer (Brian) Herron of Ankeny Iowa; siblings, Peg Johnson of Mill Hall, PA and John (Jody) Hiney of Lock Haven, PA, along with sister-in-law, Kathy Hiney of Lock Haven, PA; grandchildren, Jordon (Andrea) Hiney, Zach Hiney, Nick Hiney, Daniel Docekal, Jessica (Tim) Folkers, Maddie (Hunter) Smith, Erica Docekal, Michelle Robitaille; Butch is also survived by his 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Hiney and Arlene "Jean" (Ross) Hiney; and siblings, James "Rusty" Hiney, and Gale Panaski.
