Bessie Madias

On her 89th birthday, passed away peacefully, Friday, July 12, 2019,with her loving family by her side. She was born in Karytina Greece, July 12, 1930 to Peter and Calomira (Jatropolous) Botchen. Her family moved to the United States in 1947. She married Michael Madias on October 19th 1957 and he preceded her in death in 2007. She spent most of her life as a seamstress and was very skilled. Many of her clients became life long friends. She also was very proud of her work as a hostess for the University of Michigan Dining. She was a devoted mother to Evangelos Kelly and Peter, both of Ann Arbor. Bessie will be sadly missed by her sisters, Helen and Koula Botchen, and niece, Mary Stewart as well as several cousins in Greece. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 16 from 4 pm- 8 pm with a Trisagion service at 7 pm at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. Fourth Ave. Ann Arbor, MI 48104. A Funeral Service will be 11 am Wednesday, July 17 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 3109 Scio Church Rd Ann Arbor, MI 48103 with Fr. Nicolaos H. Kotsis officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor. Donations in Bessie's memory may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Iconography Fund.
