Alice was born on December 9, 1938, in Lansing, Michigan, to Edgar and Faye (Auble) Wiley. The middle of three children, she developed a lifelong love of learning that shaped both her career and the lives of countless students. She earned her bachelor's degree and Ph.D. from Michigan State University and her master's degree from Iowa State University. Alice enjoyed a distinguished career as a Professor of Anthropology at Central Michigan University, where she inspired generations of students through her passion for teaching and research.
A highly educated and published scholar with an adventurous spirit, Alice was deeply committed to social justice and civic engagement. She was a dedicated Democratic activist, a generous supporter of charitable causes, and an avid reader whose curiosity never faded. Fluent in Spanish, she conducted anthropological fieldwork in Oaxaca, Mexico, and traveled extensively throughout the world, embracing new cultures and experiences wherever she went.
Alice also shared a loving and enduring partnership with Dr. Larry Reynolds. Together, as retired professors from Central Michigan University, they enjoyed traveling the world and creating many countless memories. They also loved the small town of Omena where they retired and formed strong connections with the local community.
