Alison M. Woodcock (née Myers, formerly Green), beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 4, 2024, at Regency at Bluffs Park Nursing Home in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Born on August 13, 1938, in Ann Arbor to a loving family, Alison's life was marked by her passion for education and dedication to community service.
Alison, or “Button” as she was known to her family, embarked on her educational journey at Burns Park Elementary, continued through Tappan Junior High, and graduated from Ann Arbor High School. Her academic pursuits led her to the University of Wisconsin at Madison, before transferring to Hillsdale College in Michigan. At Hillsdale, Alison achieved the historic milestone of becoming the first female class president, earning a bachelor’s degree. There, she also met James B. Green, whom she married. The couple started their family in Salina, Kansas, where Alison taught U.S. Government and History at Sacred Heart High School.
After her divorce in 1973, Alison returned to Ann Arbor to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Michigan. Her subsequent career as a social worker spanned both public and private sectors, where she remained committed to helping others.
In 1993, Alison met Sean Woodcock, with whom she shared a loving marriage until his passing in 2020. Alison's interests included travel, sailing, gardening, fine dining, and reading, each of which brought her great joy and enriched her life.
Alison is survived by her children, Melissa Eberts (née Green), Mary Shaw (née Green), and James Green; stepchildren Brian, Paul, Sheila, and Peter Woodcock; thirteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Her intellect, kindness, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The immediate family will hold a private service of remembrance. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, in honor of Alison's courageous battles with cancer and her commitment to helping others fight this disease.
