Amelia Bonnetta Harris made her peaceful transition to be with the Lord on Friday, August 29, 2025 after a lengthy battle with COPD. Amelia was born in McDowell County, WV to Roscoe and Lessie (Jones) Harris on November 11, 1944. Amelia’s mother died when she was a child, and she was raised by Roscoe and Eleanor (Browning) Harris when they married. All of them preceded Amelia in death.
Amelia attended school in Kimball, WV, and she graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1962. She was employed at the University of Michigan Institute of Social Research (ISR) and the Dental School for many years before her retirement.
Amelia was a member of Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor. She was active with the Usher Board and the Kitchen Bereavement Committee before her illness.
Amelia enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed attending family reunions, the holiday family dinners, and traveling before her failing health prevented her from doing so.
Amelia was preceded in death by her brother, Michael. She is survived by her siblings: Sandra of Ann Arbor; Hugh (Gloria) of Upper Marlboro, MD; Margaret of Ypsilanti, and Ron (April) of Ypsilanti. She also leaves to mourn her passing many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Special thanks to Arbor Hospice and nurses on 4 East at the Trinity Health Hospital.
The Homegoing Celebration for Amelia will be held on Thursday, September 4 at 11:00am, following a Family Hour at 10:00am at the Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor. Interment will occur following the services at United Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Amelia’s honor to the American Lung Association or Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor.
