Arzie Lee Hardin, Sr. born November 30, 1934, to the late Rev. Arzie Hardin and Camelia Turner, passed away peacefully at his home, on Sunday, June 10, 2012. He was born in Wilkes-County (Danburg), Georgia. Arzie was married to Clara N. Floyd on September 24, 1966 and to that union, were two sons, Arzie Lee Hardin, Jr. and Ralph Everett Hardin. He was preceded in death by his sister Lula Mae Hardin-Pitts. Arzie graduated from LeRoy McNeil High School in Crawfordsville, Arkansas in 1954. He then received his Bachelors from Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas. After further studies, he received certification in the field of Radioisotope Techniques from the VA Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. From there he relocated to Ann Arbor, Michigan and was employed by St. Joseph Mercy Hospital where he was the ONLY person with the qualifications of the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologist). Arzie was a long time active member of Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor (Golden Life Member). He was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Senior Member Choir and Men’s Choir under the late Rev. C.W. Carpenter. He was a Trustee, Secretary of the SBC Credit Union and served on the Board of the former Peacock Seven, Inc. under Rev. Emmett L. Green, where he remained as Treasurer and Member of the Executive Board under the current Pastor Rev. Mark J. Lyons. Arzie loved the Lord and his church. He gave his money, as well as, his time to many ministries including one of his favorites, the Human Services Ministry. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Lifetime Member of the NAACP and loyal supporter of BAMPAC (Black America’s Political Action Committee) and many others to numerous to name. After his retirement from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in 1997, you could find him daily doing various tasks in service to his church. He was a known philosopher and philanthropist. He loved music (Dinah Washington and Brook Benton just to name a few), books, singing and had a great respect and love for education. He leaves to cherish his memory two brothers: John Marion Hardin (Geneva) of Ann Arbor and Hosea Lee Hardin (Charlotte) of N. Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister: Mable Ruth Hardin of Little Rock, Arkansas; two sons: Arzie Lee Hardin, Jr of Brooklyn, New York and Ralph Everett Hardin (Kendrah) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; four grandchildren: Christian, Camille, Gabrielle and Evan Hardin; three nieces: Judith (Eddie) Bell, Zora Madison and Decius Hardin; six nephews: John II, Terrence (Casandra), Lee Travon, Chondee (Vivian), Anwar (Carmen) and Simon Norwood; ten great-nieces and nephews; three great-great nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends; and his longtime special friend Janie Philpot.
Arzie will be greatly missed by the Second Baptist Church office staff, his church family and his friends. A Home Going Service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 29, 2012 at the Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor, family hour will begin at 10:00 a.m. There will be a wake from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Second Baptist Church.
