11/19/38 – 11/29/14
Born in New York City and raised in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Nan married John Richart in June 1970. She graduated from Cornell University and American University and earned her “PHT” degree by teaching sixth grade while he attended Harvard Business School. Nan and John designed and supervised the building of their contemporary home in Upper Montclair, NJ; during her time there she taught school and became a kitchen designer for Tielsa Kitchens of Germany. She enjoyed platform tennis and performing in plays at Montclair Golf Club. In 1989 Nan and John joined PGA WEST in La Quinta, CA, where they have resided during the winter months since that time. In 1996 they moved to Ann Arbor, MI, to follow John’s career and be close to his family, mother Betty, brother Willard, and sister Betsy French and their six children. Nan was a compassionate, caring individual, an emotionally supportive spouse and a fiercely loyal lifelong companion. She was a natural teacher and entertainer. She will be missed greatly by her husband John, his Ann Arbor family, and her many cousins, including the Buckley Family of Webster, NH, and the Treadwell Family of Grosse Ile, MI. There will be no memorial service. The family has deeply appreciated the treatment and care provided to Nan by Arbor Hospice and the U of M Cancer Center. Suggested donations in Nan’s memory may be made out to The University of Michigan and mailed to:
