12/30/1931 - 9/5/2018
Beatrice Louise (Horne) Sperry was born in Paynesville, McDowell, West Virginia on December 30, 1931 to Lushion Dewey Horne and Grace Elizabeth (Wagner) Horne. She met her would-be husband, Harman Franklin Sperry, upon his return from serving his country during WWII. They married on September 3rd, 1950, shortly after graduating from Iaeger High School in Iaeger, W. VA. Harman Frank, then, attended West Virginia Wesleyan University in Buckhannon, W. VA, which is where their only child, Frances Margueritte (Sperry) Doe, was born.
Employment opportunities associated with the auto industry lured them to Michigan, which is where they lived most of their lives until retirement. Sunshine and warm weather then took them to Summerfield, Florida, which was their home for several years until health issues prompted Bea to move back to Michigan in 2016.
She loved cooking, gardening, sewing and taking care of her family and friends; and was a master of household finances and the “waste-not-want-not” philosophy. Her quiet strength and beautiful smile will be long remembered by those who were blessed to know her.
Bea was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, HERMAN HORNE (EDITH) and DONALD HORNE (MARCELNE, who survives). Also, her sisters (and brothers)-in-law THEODOSIA PAYNE, MARGARET ROSE KLAUS, CECIL AARON SPERRY, JOHN SPERRY, and JOE DAVID SPERRY.
She is survived by her daughter, FRANCES, son-in-law, LARRY J. DOE, granddaughter, KERIN H. STOVER (ROSS), grandsons, LARRY E. DOE (KAREN GEIGER), and TERRY J. DOE (DENA KELLY), great-grandson, COLLIN H. STOVER, sisters, VIRGIE LEAH MULLINS (EDGAR) and LILLIAN WIMER (RAYMOND), and brothers-in-law, ALBERT SPERRY (LINDA, deceased), MARK SPERRY, and JERRY KLAUS…all of whom are profoundly affected by the loss of her shining light in their lives.
A Memorial Service will be held at The Sanctuary at St. Joseph’s Village, 5341 McAuley Dr., Ypsilanti, Mi. at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that a donation be made to the Belleview United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 567, Belleview, Fla. 34420, where Bea found true friendship and soul sustaining spiritual guidance. Her cremated remains will be interred with her husband’s at the Bushnell National Cemetery in Florida at a later date.
