Age 87, died on August 26, 2010. Betty was born December 13, 1922 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Emmy and Roy Strieter and the sister of Bob (Robert) Strieter. Until the past year, she was a lifelong Ann Arbor resident. On September 21, 1946 she married Thomas S. Colvin Jr. (Tom) - that "mean boy" as she fondly often re-told one of her earliest memories of him when he would stand at the top of the slide on the playground of Mack School and not let her have a turn to go down. Betty and Tom first began their practically life-long relationship in Kindergarten and growing up together around the Spring Street area of Ann Arbor and had many friends as they graduated from Ann Arbor High School - class of 1940. Up until just a short time ago Betty would continue to meet, plan and enjoy many class reunions. Along with her family and church activities, keeping these life-long friendships alive was one of her most favorite things to do. Betty (along with her parents, her husband and his mother Grace Helmrich Colvin and others) were charter members of the Northside Community Church and the First Union Church Service. Betty attended and graduated from EMU using her degree to obtain a permanent teaching certificate in Elementary Education with the state of MI. In addition to teaching many years with Ann Arbor Public School, she started her teaching career in Mt. Clemens, MI. Betty is survived by her daughter Chris Manzie of Fairbanks, AK; daughter-in-law Patty Oser of Cumming, Georgia; many grand children, Richard Roy Colvin and his wife Natalie; Leann Parker and her husband Dennis, Emmy Toohey and her husband Derek; and also Jovia and Tucker Manzie; her brother-in-law Mr. Jack Klingensmith of Muncie, Indiana; sister-in-law Rosemary Strieter; 4 great-grandchildren; many other neices, and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her two sons, Hoppy and Richard Colvin. Funeral services will be held at Northside Community Church 929 Barton Dr. on Wednesday September 1st at 10 am. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to Northside Community Church. The family will receive friends at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel on Tuesday August 31st from 4 - 8 pm and an hour prior to the funeral 9-10 am at the church. As Betty's family can hardly think about her death without also remembering her husband Tom Colvin, they are requesting his obituary previously printed in the Ann Arbor News be re-printed along side Betty's obituary. please visit www.muehligannarbor.com
