
Beverly Harriet (Jones) Carlisle was born on November 15, 1928 in Detroit, MI. She was the daughter of Frank (Francis) and Mildred Jones. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Ferndale in 1946. She attended Michigan State College, where she majored in journalism. She was a lifetime member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She graduated from MSC in 1951.
Beverly worked as a copy writer and layout artist for the J. L. Hudson Company in Detroit, Lowenstein’s Department Store in Memphis, Tennessee, and the Goodyear Department Store in Ann Arbor.
She went to Eastern Michigan University to get her teaching certificate and work on a Masters Degree program in Special Education. Beverly taught for the Ann Arbor Public Schools at Tappan, Clague, and Pioneer High School, where she wrote the curriculum guide for journalism and taught English and journalism. She was also the advisor for the school many student teachers from the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. She then worked at Washtenaw Community College part-time in the Learning Support Service for 16 years.
Beverly has two children, Jill and Marc, and was a single parent for 25 years. She met and married George Carlisle in 1996 at First United Methodist Church in Ann Arbor, where they both were members. Beverly has two grandchildren, Wayne (wife Leah), and Aaron (wife Jolene). She has five great-grandchildren, Steven, Cecilia, Felicity, Joseph, and Godwin.
She always said that she was very Blessed.
