Bonnie Lou Branim

Bonnie Lou Branim, 82, died August 9, 2026. She was born June 27, 1944, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of Arnold G. and Norma Elaine Shear. Bonnie graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School in 1962 and later attended Washtenaw Community College, where she pursued several English and writing classes—an enduring reflection of her thoughtful spirit and steady love of learning. She resided in Las Vegas, Nevada and Ypsilanti, Michigan.

In 1965, Bonnie married James D. Branim. Her life was anchored by deep compassion and a generous heart, and she was beloved by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Bonnie’s working life was marked by devotion and care for others. She served as a dental assistant and worked as a secretary for many years. In 1999, she retired from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, closing a chapter defined by faithful service and quiet diligence. In 2000, her and Jim bought a winter home in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bonnie’s faith and community ties were central throughout her life. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor and Faith Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas. In Las Vegas, she enjoyed fellowship and friendly competition as part of the Bocce Ball Team and Bowling team. She was also a member of the Huron Valley Corvette Club and the Ypsi Corvette Club. Her devoted commitment to service included serving as a board member of the International Bethania Kids and as a secretary for Aid Association for Lutherans. She loved to travel and did so with the Pittsfield Senior Center often. She was an active part of the writing club, book club, and Scrabble Club. She actively participated in line-dancing, and tap-dancing clubs—places where her cherished presence and considerate nature were felt and appreciated.

Bonnie is survived by her beloved children, Brad Arnold (Gina) Branim & Chandra(Mike) Allred, and her six truly cherished grandchildren, Alexander J. (Amanda) Branim, Cody (Lindsey) Allred, Alexis Elaine (Chase) Avila, Katie L. Allred, Layton Howe, and Tanner Howe, and great grandchildren, Kenna, Hudson, and Ambrose J. She is also survived by two brothers, Gary (Barb) and Cary (Dorothy) Shear, and many wonderful supportive friends and relatives.

Memorials can be given to Zion Lutheran Church of Ann Arbor.

Visitation will be held at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 South 4th Ave, Ann Arbor, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 4 until 7 pm. A funeral will be held 11 am Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Liberty St, Ann Arbor. Burial will follow in Arborcrest Memorial Park.
