Carol was born on July 16, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to Urban and Virginia Ginnard. She spent her childhood in the Detroit area and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1956.
In 1958, Carol married Robert J. Politi. Together they parented four beloved children before separating in 1973. In 1970, Carol moved with her family to Ann Arbor, where she began a long and dedicated career as a surgical technician at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in 1971. She faithfully served patients there until her retirement in 2000, when she relocated to Florida.
Carol embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. She was an avid fan of classic movies and proudly cheered for University of Michigan football, the Detroit Tigers, and hockey teams throughout her life. She was a great cook whose family eagerly anticipated her homemade stuffed cabbage, and sauerkraut & ribs. She also enjoyed sweet treats from Sanders.
Travel was one of Carol’s greatest joys. Whether she was exploring destinations abroad such as Germany and South Korea, visiting Montreal, or spending time with family in Chicago, Utah, and South Carolina, she loved discovering new places and making memories along the way. She also enjoyed deep-sea fishing with her sister, Sue, camping, canoeing, and relaxing with a Grey Goose martini, with a twist.
Carol’s strength and resilience were exemplified by her remarkable journey as a breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed in 1986 at the age of 48, she overcame the disease and went on to enjoy 40 more years filled with family, friendship, and adventure.
Above all else, Carol cherished her family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whose lives were enriched by her warmth and unwavering love.
Carol is survived by her beloved children; Karen (Nicholas) Trina, Sharyl (John Blue) Politi, Daniel (Betsy) Politi, and Robert S. (Laura) Politi, her grandchildren; Jaclyn Trina, Jessica (Dallin) Harris, Dana (Joseph) Politi-Rashid, Evan (Iris Zhou) Politi, Robert J. Politi, Kara Politi, Julien (Emily Meyer) LaFortune, and Claire (Oliver Murphy) LaFortune, and her great grandchildren; Mabel Whetton, Harper Harris, Carson Harris, Chandler Harris, Jordan Niensiri, Cecilia Rashid, Sylvia LaFortune, Cora LaFortune, and Camile Murphy, as well as her siblings; Robert Ginnard, Susan Polak, and Gary Ginnard.
Carols is preceded in death by her former husband, Robert J. Politi, her brother; Ronald Ginnard, her beloved grandson, Ryan Politi, and her dear dogs; Liebchen, the miniature schnauzer, and Buddy the miniature dachshund.
A funeral mass will be celebrated for Carol on Thursday June 18, 2026, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a time of visiting to begin at 11:00 AM, and mass to begin at 11:30 AM.
