Christina Marion Genova

April 6, 1918-February 6, 2011

Marion was born In Brigdon Ontario, the only daughter of Sarah Jane MaGill and Dufferin Taylor and was named Margaret Wilena. Orphaned at the age of three she was adopted as the only child of Floyd and Margaret (Livingston) Stocking and became known as Christina Marion. Growing up in Detroit she became a lifelong member of Fort Street Presbyterian Church where on June 18, 1938 she married her childhood sweetheart; Harry Isadore Genova. The Genova’s moved to the Ann Arbor area in 1957 and established the Washtenaw News Company. Harry preceded Marion in death on Thanksgiving Day 1996.

Marion was the proud mother of six children, all of whom survive; H. Nicholas (Sharon), Margaret Manson (Steve Hurd), Kenneth (Jeanette), James (Leslie), Christine Benson (Christopher), Sara McCrea (James). Together they gave Marion 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Marion’s happiest times were spent at her Florida home with her husband and friends, gardening, spending time with her family and with her numerous pets.

Marion will be deeply missed by her family, friends and fellow members of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor which she joined when moving to Ann Arbor. But most especially her grand-daughter Jennifer, who was devoted to caring for and bringing much happiness to her in her final years.

In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Marion’s honor to The Salvation Army which provided for Marion and her brothers during their orphaned years, or to the Human Society of Huron Valley in memory of her many pets and her love for animals.

Visitation will take place at Muehlig Funeral Chapel-403 S. Fourth Avenue Ann Arbor at 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am, Thursday, February 10, 2011. Burial will immediately follow.

"An acorn does fall too far from the tree." I regret I did not know Nick, Sr. and Christina Genova but I am familiar with their family. And based on the honesty, integrity and hard work that are synonymous with the Genova name, their parenting skills must be top drawer.
