Consuela Romona Schaffner
December 27, 1968 – July 31, 2018
Consuela Ramona Schaffner was born on December 27, 1968 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Cornelius and Betty Schaffner. Connie attended Mack, Bryant and Abbot Elementary Schools, Forsythe Intermediate school and graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School in 1986.
Connie’s family joined Bethel A.M.E. church in Ann Arbor in the late 1940’s. Her family were lifelong Bethel members. Sunday school is where Connie formed life-long relationships with young and older members of the church. Connie was a member of the junior usher board and the YPD. Bethel gave Connie her strong spiritual foundation. Connie went on to attend Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio and later transferred to Western Michigan University from which she graduated in 1995. On November 25, 2000 Connie gave birth to her beloved Mykah Michelle Schaffner.
Connie worked in Financial Aid yet her true penchant was for event planning. Connie always gave extravagant birthday parties for Mykah and for her Godchildren Melia and Melik with attention to every detail with food, decorations and games. The soirees at Connie’s house for family and friends were events looked forward to by all as they included incredible food, drinks, decorations and games for even the adults! Connie made sure everyone always had a good time!
Connie loved to travel and took trips throughout the year every year. Connie loved to laugh and will forever be remembered for her funny faces, stories, jokes and infectious laugh.
Connie was preceded in death by her grandparents James and Norma Roberts. People she left to grieve her memory include her parents Cornelius and Betty Schaffner, her beloved daughter Mykah, her Uncle John Roberts, cousins Thomas James (TJ) and Madeline (Maddie), godchildren Melia and Melik Williams Uncles Joe (Katherine) and Michael Schaffner, aunts Karen and Shirleen, and their children who were her cousins with whom she was extremely close. Connie also left a host of friends. Although Connie was an only child to her parents, she had 24 Sisters in the Spirit as her line sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated who will miss her feisty yet gregarious spirit immensely.
