

Cornelia May “Nina” Butine, 88, of Ann Arbor, MI, formerly of Erie, PA, passed away May 1, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was born April 1, 1938 in Ann Arbor, MI, the daughter of Alfred and Catherine Belvedere. Nina graduated from University High School in Ann Arbor in 1956 and Eastern Michigan University in 1960 where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Nina began her teaching career in Grand Rapids, MI in 1960 and where she met her husband of 62 years, John D. Butine. They were married August 17, 1963 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, where they lived for a year before moving to Erie, PA in 1964. They were residents of Lawerence Park for 62 years and active members of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. Nina served in various roles with the Parish Action League (PAL), in particular with coordination and serving of funeral luncheons at the parish. She also served on the Liturgy Committee, collection counters, CSA coordinator, Eucharistic Minister, and volunteered in the Religious Education office.
In 1986, Nina returned to work part-time as a teller at First National Bank in Lawrence Park where she loved connecting with members of the community. She retired from PNC Bank in 2003. In retirement, she enjoyed sailing with her husband on their sailboat, “Maine Sail,” traveling with the GEER group, and visiting their children and grandchildren.
Nina is survived by her husband, John D.; her two children, John A. (Amy) of Mooresville, NC, and Jennifer Wilson (Jason) of Plymouth, MI; 4 grandsons (John J., Andrew, and Ethan Butine, and Matthew Wilson), a brother, John Belvedere (Anne) of Pleasant Hill, CA; and two sisters-in-law, Ann Butine of Brookfield, WI and Elizabeth Aronson of Trenton, MI and many nieces and nephews. Nina was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, John F. and Mary Butine.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on May 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Plymouth, Michigan. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor.
