

Dr. Daniel T. Anbe of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away Sunday June 7 at the age of 91. He was born November 26, 1934, in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii to Takeo and Haruko(Kato) Anbe. He grew up on the Island of Lanai, in Hawaii, graduating from Lanai High School in 1952. He attended the University of Hawaii and continued on to receive his Bachelors and Medical degrees from the University of Michigan in 1960. He was drafted to the Medical Corp of the US Army in1962 where he served as an officer at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii.
Dan spent the first 19 years of his career at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI as first a resident and then senior staff cardiologist. He then spent the next 22 years at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, MI. In addition to caring for thousands of patients, Dan always went above and beyond for his career. His titles include Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation, Director of the Coronary Care Unit, Director of ICU, Director of Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Director of the Cardiology Dept., Associate Professor of Internal Medicine-Michigan State School of Human Medicine. He also served a term as President of the Michigan Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, Michigan Chapter of the American Heart Association and Chairman of the McLaren Foundation.
Dan kept himself just as busy during his retirement years. Although retired, he kept his license active. He put his skills to work by volunteering in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, spending 6 weeks offering his medical services to those displaced and affected by the hurricane. He was also proud of his involvement with the Rotary Club, attending meetings and fulfilling service hours. Dan shared many interests with his wife Donna, especially golfing, traveling and attending concerts at the Flint Institute of Music, where he also served on its board. He was an avid skier who loved skiing with his family. His love for skiing led him to become a founding member of the Cardiology at Big Sky annual medical conference in Montana. After 30 years, Big Sky Resort honored these founding members by naming the slope Cardio Trio in their honor. Dan loved his family and was a wonderful husband, dad and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, attending many soccer and baseball games over the years. He especially loved teaching his grandkids the art of making Spam Sushi.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Donna Anbe. His children Beth Ostrowski(Mark), Richard Truxal(Bernadette), Darryl Anbe(April), Patricia Harris(Shannon), and Janelle Szep(Todd). Grandchildren, Meredith Ostrowski(Mike), Madeline Ostrowski, Paige Ostrowski, Lauren Truxal, Emma Truxal, Danielle Harris, Jackson Harris, William Szep, Lillian Szep, George Szep and Kate Szep. Siblings George Anbe(Jean), Rose Lugo(Mike), Janet Otani, Stanley Anbe and Doris Quon. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private inurnment ceremony will take place at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
