Daniel Anthony Pilz
March 11, 1990 – August 21, 2020
Daniel Anthony Pilz was born in Southfield, Michigan on March 11, 1990 to George Edmund Pilz and Angelica Lizzette Contreras Pilz. Daniel entered into eternal rest Friday, August 21, 2020.
A small private memorial service to celebrate Daniel's life will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 30650 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152.
Daniel grew up in Zamorano, Honduras, at the Pan American Agricultural School where his father was a Botany Professor. Daniel graduated from high school at the Discovery School in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. In his teen years he was diagnosed with brain cancer, underwent various surgeries and had major neurological disabilities as a result of his treatments.
Daniel's empathetic heart was driven to help the poor communities in rural Honduras, working along with the Medical and Dental Baptist Missions.
Daniel moved to the United States in 2014. He enrolled at Washtenaw Community College but unfortunately his disabilities prevented his dream and goal to achieve a degree. He worked at the restaurant HopCat in Ann Arbor. Later on he worked for the Catering Department at the University of Michigan. He was proud of his performance at both jobs.
Daniel was a young man who enjoyed life and nature. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He was kind and generous in giving his time to help other people and friendly to everyone he met. He went out of his way to help his coworkers and friends. We are blessed and lucky to have known Daniel and called him family or friend depending on how we knew him.
One friend wrote: "I will remember Danny's beautiful smile and the bear hugs he gave when we saw each other. Thank you for being an awesome friend and overall a good honest man." Daniel's mother, sister and his extended family and friends who loved him dearly are thankful for the generosity that surrounded Daniel during the difficult time since he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in November 2019. Daniel valued enormously the support from his family, friends, doctors, nurses, work buddies at HopCat and U of M, his managers at Catering and his Spiritual Guide who stood by him through the months of trial and fight against cancer.
The many memories of Danny are sweet and kind. We will keep his spirit alive with those memories we hold close to our hearts.
