Derrick Anthony Kirkland, 54, of Adrian, Michigan, passed away on October 20, 2025. Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on August 25, 1971, to Tony Franklin and Rebecca Kirkland, Derrick graduated from Pioneer High School before settling in Adrian.
For many years, Derrick was a beloved cook at Smokehouse Blues, where he became a familiar face to many. His love for food was only rivaled by his passion for sports—especially the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Lakers—and his enjoyment of hip hop and R&B music.
Derrick is survived by his son, Torey Kirkland, grandson, Caelon Kirkland, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the love he had for his family and friends.
A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Derrick's life.
