

Dorothy Lawrence Platte, age 89, passed away on January 28, 2015, at Glacier Hills Senior Living Community. Dorothy was born on September 13, 1925, in Norwalk, Ohio, to parents, Russell and Florence Lawrence. She moved to Ann Arbor to attend the University of Michigan, graduating in 1948 with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Beginning her career at the University of Michigan Hospital, she later taught surgical nursing at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She married Richard L. Platte in 1948, and together they raised two sons, Richard and Bruce. In 1969, Dorothy earned her master's degree in education from Eastern Michigan University. She taught for many years in the Ann Arbor Public Schools, eventually retiring from Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School. She loved teaching, nature, and classical music. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, Sr., and her brother, Wilbert. She is survived by her sister, Alice Linn of Norwalk, Ohio, and sons, Richard, Jr. (Leslie) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Bruce (Jane) of Petoskey, Michigan. Her grandchildren include Jamie (Marc), Julie (Matthew), Nathan (Diane), Beau (Keely), Erin (Patrick), Peter (Chelsea), and four great grandchildren, Elliot, Benjamin, Finn, Anna, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. February 21, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor.
