Doug was a man of many talents and interests, a true jack-of-all-trades. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life he carried with great honor. Over the years, Doug was a man of many talents and interests—a true jack-of-all-trades. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that he carried with great honor. Over the years, Doug wore many hats: he worked in real estate, held various positions in the military, was employed by DTE, drove delivery trucks, and held multiple roles at Ford Motor Company. Regardless of the job, Doug brought dedication, skill, and a strong work ethic to everything he did.
An avid sailor, Doug, found peace and joy on the water. He had a deep love for nature, often spending time bird watching or capturing the world through his camera lens. A sharp mind and a passionate thinker, he also enjoyed the strategic challenge of a good game of chess. Whatever hobby he pursued, he pursued it fully—always well-equipped and deeply knowledgeable.
Doug was also a gifted storyteller, known for captivating friends and family with his tales, whether humorous or heartfelt. His intelligence, curiosity, and resourcefulness left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dickson and Dorothy, and his sister, Sue (Rod Smith) of Oxford. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Karvonen; his son, Edward Mann (Rebecca Halpern) of Los Angeles; his brother, Dickson (Ginny) Mann of Florida; and his sister, Dorothy Borgne of Swartz Creek.
Doug's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at the Ann Arbor VA Dialysis Center, the palliative care teams at both the Ann Arbor VA and the University of Michigan, and the compassionate caregivers at Elara Hospice.
No public services are scheduled at this time. Doug will be remembered with love, admiration, and a deep appreciation for the full and adventurous life he led.
