She was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on March 17, 1941, to Mary Elizabeth and Clare Franklin Carter. She lived in several different cities growing up as her family followed her father’s career in the FBI, including Miami, Cleveland, and Detroit. When Betsy was in high school, her family moved to Battle Creek, and she graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1959. She received a bachelor’s degree from Albion College in 1963, and then a master’s degree in education from the University of Michigan. She married Robert (Bob) M Teeter in 1967 in Kawkawlin, Michigan. After graduating from Albion, Betsy taught elementary school for nine years before the birth of her eldest child. Bob and Betsy moved to Barton Hills in Ann Arbor in 1970, where Betsy resided until her death. Betsy is survived by her two children, Katherine (Alec Lindsay) and John (Jennifer), as well as four grandchildren – William and Elizabeth Lindsay, and Evan and Eli Teeter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her sister, Mary Clare Ryan. While her children were attending the Ann Arbor Public Schools, Betsy spent many hours volunteering at the schools. She passed on a love of reading to her two children, especially mystery novels. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family cottage on Coldwater Lake, and in later years, she particularly enjoyed spending winters in Key Largo, Florida. Visitation is Thursday, July 7 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel (403 S. Fourth Ave.), Ann Arbor. A gathering for family and friends to share remembrances of Betsy will be held Thursday, July 7, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Zingerman’s Road House (2501 Jackson Ave., Ann Arbor). Interment will take place in a private ceremony on Thursday, August 4, in the Teeter family plot at Oak Grove Cemetery, Coldwater, Michigan.
