Elmer Wessel, age 94, passed away on January 1, 2018 at home on his sesquicentennial farm. He was born June 6, 1923, on the family farm to Fred and Frieda Wessel, the youngest of 7 children. Elmer married Annie Gyde on August 20, 1960. He is survived by his wife Annie and 2 daughters, Laurie (Johan) Comuth and Marie (Robert) Bates, 7 grandchildren, Aaron (Lindsey) Bates, Ashley (John) Dinkel, Allen Bates, Amy, Kristen and Matthew Comuth, Emily (Pat) Chheda and 1 greatgrandchild, Clayton Bates. Elmer was a dairy farmer in Salem Township for most of his life and a member of MMPA. He enjoyed his grandchildren and making wood signs for the yard. Funeral service will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2945 E. Northfield Church Road, Ann Arbor on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 11 am. Visitation will be at Muehlig Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, January 3, from 4 – 8 pm and 1 hour prior to the funeral service at church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
