
Grimes, Ethel Whitney Passed away March 9, 2011 at the age of 97. She was born on June 30, 1913 to John Whitney and Mattie Purcell in Freedom, KY. During WWII she moved to Pontiac, MI and lived there most of her life. Ethel took a job at GM and worked for thirty years before retiring. Ethel was involved in many social groups including a woman’s group called Les Bonnes Amis Club, which was formed in the 1940’s, meaning “The Good Friends.” This group held many dances and fund-raisers that helped needy families during holiday times. Ethel was very involved in being a volunteer. She was also a Foster Grandparent. Ethel enjoyed bowling and traveled to many bowling tournaments. Ethel moved to Evangelical Home, Saline in February of 2004. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Houston Whitney, Sr., nephew Houston Whitney Jr. and niece Patricia Taylor. She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Mary McRae, Robert Whitney, Ellen Ransey, Gloria Jean Roseberry, John Whitney Karen (Larry) Rossum. Also survived by many great nieces and nephews and many loving friends. Many thanks to the caretakers at Evangelical Home-Saline. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 10am until time of service at 11am at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor. Burial will follow at Washtenong Memorial Park.
