

Holter, Frances Elizabeth Jenkins Ann Arbor, MII. At the age of 86, Frances Holter died on September 7, 2010. She was born on January 26, 1924 in Big Rapids, MI, the daughter of William Francis and Mabel (West enfelder) Jenkins. She was married to Marvin R. Holter in 1955; he predeceased her in 1993. She graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1942. In 1947, she received her Associate of Arts degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO; and her Bachelors degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1947. After graduation, she was employed an as an Aeronautical Engineer by North American Aviation in Downey, CA. In 1949 she returned to Ann Arbor where she was employed by University Willow Run Labs. In 1955, she and her husband taught Engineering Mechanics at the University of Toledo. From 1959 to 1974 she was employed as an engineer at Bendix Aerospace in Ann Arbor, where she was the project engineer of the lunar rover, a principle engineer on the Apollo landing module, and as project engineer for the Apollo lunar rover for the Apollo program. Frances was a member and past president of the Ann Arbor Women's City Club, the Lucille B. Conger group, the Sorosis Club of Michigan, Docent Emeritus at the University of Michigan Museum of Art, Book and Thimble Club, Friends of the Michigan League, Ann Arbor Women's National Farm and Garden Association, Board of Directors for the Anna Botsford Bach Home, member of the Society of Women Engineers, and a member of International Neighbors for over 30 years. She is survived by daughters Christine Elizabeth of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Ann Frances of Ann Arbor, MI.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at 2:00 on Saturday, September 11, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Andrew's Breakfast Program. Arrangements under the direction of Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor, MI.
