I was just thinking of Gary today and when I looked him up online, I was saddened to learn of his passing. I met him as a 7th and 8th Grade volleyball player at St. Paul Lutheran Ann Arbor when he helped coach our team in the 1990s. We remained friends through my high school and college years and Pauline used to keep us all in touch after that via her Facebook account. What I appreciated most about Gary was that he encouraged me to follow my passion, which happened to be music over sports, (even though I loved volleyball). It meant so much to me to have a coach tell me that he was supportive of my talents outside of sports! I am a music professor today. The positive impact Gary had on me as my coach and as my friend will last a lifetime! God's peace and blessings to all of Gary's family members. He will be missed!

Gary and Pauline were so much fun to be around. I always called Gary Mr. WKRP because he reminded me of Howard Hessman. Gary and Pauline came to my rescue and offered me a place to stay when her brother Bill was admitted to the V.A. hospital. Gary was an amazing brother-in-law and went out of his way to put a smile on my face. I got to know the boys Brad and Mike and love them dearly. I forever will think of Gary, Pauline, Brad and Mike as family. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family. My love to my nephews Brad and Mike. I am so very sorry for you loss. R.I.P. Gary and Pauline you are now joined together again in heaven.
