Gary Robert Muehlig, 56, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism at home on Tuesday, May 22. Gary was a lifelong and passionate Michigan football fan, who held season tickets to football, basketball (both men's and women's), hockey, softball, and volleyball, as well as women's gymnastics. He never missed a home football game for over 40 years, and went to as many away and bowl games as possible, including the recent Sugar Bowl and the 1997 team's national championship Rose Bowl. A graduate of Pioneer HIgh School, Gary was self-employed in landscaping and snow removal, adjusting his schedule whenever possible to the Wolverines' athletic schedule. He proudly wore the Maize and Blue, and his personalized license plate was Roses4M. He was also interested in NASA's space program, politics, and political history. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Muehlig, former president of Muehlig Funeral Chapel, and Gladys L. Muehlig, Gary's frequent companion to away and bowl games. He is survived by his sisters, Carol A. Muehlig, of Ann Arbor, and Linda D. Muehlig, of Northampton, Massachusetts, and by his cousin, Kathleen Cramer, and her husband, Don, of Ypsilanti. Gary was a quiet man with a good sense of humor and a generous heart, who always helped his neighbors. He was deeply loved by his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed by all of us. Visitation will be at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. Fourth Avenue, Ann Arbor, on Tuesday, May 29, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Muehlig on Wednesday, May 30, at 1:30 p.m (Rev. Melissa Anne Rogers officiating), followed by a brief reception there. Immediately afterward, there will be a procession to Michigan Stadium for a short facilities tour (ca. 3:30), ending with a final "Go Blue" and a round of "The Victors" for Gary at the Big House, his favorite place on earth. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery on Thursday, May 31. Please call Muehlig Funeral Chapel for further information at 734-663-3375. Donations in Gary's memory may be made to Michigan Football, the Michigan Marching Band, Michigan Softball, or the charity of your choice.
