George Huntley Cameron, M.D., 84, died on June 29, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital from complications of pneumonia and Parkinson’s disease. He was born on June 13, 1928, in Wyandotte, Michigan to Arthur and Alexia Cameron.
George graduated from University of Detroit High School in 1946. He received his B.A. in History from the University of Michigan in 1950 and his Medical Degree in 1955 from the University of Michigan Medical School. George was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 – 1958, serving in both Iceland (US Radar Sites of Iceland Veterans’ Group) and at Selfridge Air Force Base. He did his residency in Dermatology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the University of Michigan. He was a Dermatologist in private practice in Ann Arbor for over three decades.
In 1959, George married Mollie Mae Guyman. They enjoyed U of M Alumni trips as well as raising their three children. He was a lifelong Michigan fan and would entertain his fellow Michigan football fans seated in his section with his prediction of the game score before kickoff. His favorite place was his home, and he loved to relax in his backyard.
George will be remembered not only for his quick dry wit, but for his intelligence, generosity, humility and determination. He endured months of physical rehabilitation this year and reached his goal of being able to walk again -- and to return to his home, before he became ill again.
George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mollie, and his children Mark Cameron, Jennifer (Curtis) Granger, Daniel (Tammy) Cameron, his grandchildren, Sarah, Joseph and James Cameron, Karly and Dana Granger, and Christopher and William Cameron and step-grandchildren Olivia & Avery Jepson. He is also survived by his brother Hugh Cameron and his sister Madeline Haubrich, as well as several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his brother Charles Horace Cameron and daughter in law Ann Bellestri Cameron.
The family would like to thank the dedicated heath care professionals at both Glacier Hills and St. Joseph’s for their care and compassion. George was a fighter and taught those around him a few things about courage and the human spirit.
Visitation will be at Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor on Monday, July 2, from 5:00 – 7:00pm and on Tuesday, July 3, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, http://www.pdf.org/.
