Glennetta Luree Camfield (Lichty) departed for her heavenly home on February 29, 2012, to reunite with her loving husband of 52 years, Howard M. Camfield (1929 – 2005), and her eldest daughter, Deborah (1956 – 2007). Her children held her hands as she stepped off into life eternal.
Loving and devoted wife, exceptional mother, and dedicated grandmother and great grandmother, Glennetta arrived on this earth in 1932, daughter of Glen and Sarah L. Lichty (Newcomb). Glennetta was the youngest of four and sister to Oran, Richard, and John. She knew an upbringing rich in pioneer spirit and pious sensibilities that helped build her reputation of putting others’ welfare before her own needs. This natural tendency sometimes led to necessary material frugality but never left her wanting for the love and respect of others. She was wealthy in the latter.
Glennetta attended Ann Arbor High School and then Florida State University. It was while attending Florida State that she married the dashing Naval officer who would be her lifelong companion. Never lacking in love for children and the true spirit of a giving teacher, Glennetta coordinated the noon hour for Carpenter Elementary School and then Burns Park Elementary School in the Ann Arbor Public School system. She touched countless lives during her 35 years watching over and guiding the promise of the future.
Glennetta is survived by a small army of loved ones who will miss her dearly but are happy she is at peace. Among them are her daughters, Cynthia (Toth), Angela and Angelique (Camfield-Kuiper), as well as her sons, Howard and David. Her grandchildren Amourelle, Tabitha, Jennifer, James, John, Glen, Annalise, Amarra, and Alivia will also help to carry on her legacy. There are also her great grandchildren Sarah, Spencer, Isabella, Xander, Angelina, Memphis, Caden. Her troops will ensure that she continues to live in loving hearts and priceless memories.
Mom, there's a hole in this world that you've departed, but you've done well to fill it with your legacy of love and selflessness. Onward, dear Christian Soldier!
