To: the Walton family, you are in my prayers for peace & healing. I thank Dr. Walton for his intellect, wit and belief in Black politics. I am a better person with stronger positive values and  a certain commitment to public service. As an undergrad student of Walton's at Savannah State, I recall how he challenged us to know, understand & appreciate Black history, with a goal of making a difference for Black people. My successful 18 years as an elected official(12-GA House of Reps. & 6-State Court Judge)were due in large part to Dr. Walton's encouragement, analysis of election data and guidance as to which precincts must be garnered to win in my campaigns.  His legacy will live on. Rest in Peace Dr. Walton, God knows that you have earned it.

As a Savannah State undergrad, I had the pleasure of becoming friends with Dr. Walton--a distinguished University System of Georgia Callaway professor. Several years ago, we re-established contact. In fact, he provided me an opportunity to contribute a piece to one of his books. Dr. Walton, thanks for being a mentor and friend. Most of all, thanks for keeping it real!!
