Helen Dorothea Clapsadle of Ann Arbor , passed away at age 95 on April 5, 2010. Helen was born in Chelsea , MI to John and Sophia Schmidt. She was married on December 11, 1933 to Howard Clapsadle in Mason , MI . She was a charter member of Arbor Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association and in 1971 was chosen Woman of the year. She retired from Ann Arbor YMCA after 30 years. Helen was the first woman cab driver in Ann Arbor during the 1930s. Her only route was to drive from Ann Arbor to Willow Run and return. She drove for the Radio Cab Company. She is preceded in death by her husband, daughter Virginia Lee, brother Alfred Schmidt and sister Florence Clark. She is survived by her children Mary Jo Clapsadle of Ann Arbor and Robert Dean (Cindy) Douglas of Ravenna, MI; grandson Brenden Douglas of Ann Arbor and nieces and nephews.
