

Helen Evangelides was born March 1st, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan along with her fraternal twin brother Constantine (Gus). They were the 4th and 5th children of Anastasios and Katherine (neé Savoulis) Evangelides, immigrants from Kozani, Greece. Anastasios was a chef. During the Great Depression the family moved to Ann Arbor where her father and his son-in-law Louis Kambas eventually established a restaurant, the Main Café, on N. Main street. They had seven children. Helen passed away on December 15th, 2023 in Ann Arbor.
After graduating from Ann Arbor High School Miss Evangelides worked in the accounts payable office of the University of Michigan for sixteen years. In 1962 she moved to Kansas City, MO to work in the accounting department of Ozark Airlines; a job which continued after Ozark was taken over by Trans World Airways (TWA) and TWA by American Airlines. She was active in the St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church in Overland Park, Kansas, serving as Treasurer of the Parish Council and member of the ladies’ Philoptochos Society. She received a commendation from His Eminence Isaiah, Metropolitan of Denver in January 2005 for her extraordinary services to the church and to God.
She was married for a time, 2001 to 2009, to the late Taso S. Anthan, a former FAA flight controller. They lived in St. Louis, MO.
In 2009 she moved back to Ann Arbor. She became active in the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and its Philoptochos Society until 2020. She moved into the Balfour Senior Living facility on S. Main St. in 2021 and resided there until her death at age 95.
She leaves surviving a brother, Christopher Evangelides in Phoenix, AZ. She had sixteen nieces and nephews, many grand-nieces and grand-nephews and many god children.
Her family gives thanks to the loving care she received at Balfour Senior Living memory care.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, December 19 from 4-8 pm, with a Trisagion Service at 6:30. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 20, 11 am, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 3109 Scio Church Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103,
