

Born on November 11th, 1933 in Charles City, Iowa, Jim was a graduate of the University of Iowa Medical School. While there he met and married his wife of 57 years, Deanna Doerr. Jim and Deanna arrived in Ann Arbor in 1961 for his psychiatric training and soon thereafter took on a two-year assignment as Air Force Captain at the Lackland Air Force Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Jim returned to Ann Arbor to become a practicing psychiatrist, start a family, and immerse himself in University of Michigan football while living in and restoring the historic Fielding Yost home. During his distinguished career, Jim was a highly-respected member of the medical community and maintained a private practice until the time of his passing. Jim is survived by his beloved wife; his sister Marilyn Weber; and his three adult children Brett Miner, Kristen Karolak, and Scott Miner. He has six grandchildren: Ella, Alexandra, and William Karolak; and Annalee, Cabot, and Eloise Miner. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel (403 South Fourth Ave., Ann Arbor) on Friday, September 18, 2015 with visitation on Thursday, September 17 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Doctors Without Borders or the Wounded Warriors Project in his name.
