Jean Thompson Fryer, passed away March 19, 2019, at the age of 98. She was born August 28, 1920, in Marcellus, MI, to Grace Edith (Templeton) Krise and Rolland Milton Krise Sr. She earned a degree in teaching on full scholarship from the University of Michigan where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kapa Society. Jean married John (Jack) Henry Thompson on July 19, 1942. They lived happily married for 53 years until the time of his death in February 1995. Together they had two children, Susan Elizabeth Matzinger and John Henry Thompson, Jr. Jean married Robert Edwin Fryer in December 1996, and they were happily married until the time of Bob’s passing in November of 2012. Jean’s love for her family was never ending. Jean is survived by her grandchildren, Karen (John) Heaney, Brad (Natalie) Matzinger, Stephen Matzinger, six great-grandchildren, Zachary Matzinger, Emma Matzinger, Michael Heaney, Evan Matzinger, Braden Heaney, and Cadence Matzinger, and son-in-law, Fred Matzinger. Jean was predeceased by her daughter Susan and son John and by her sibling, Rolland M. Krise, Jr., and sister-in-law Martha P. Krise. A memorial service will be at the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor on Saturday, March 23, 2019; at 3:30 p.m., with Rev. Nick Berlanga officiating. Burial will take place in the church memorial garden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arbor Hospice or the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor.
