Joseph C. Pfaff joined his beloved wife, Joyce in Heaven August 14, 2026. He was at home and surrounded by his loving daughters as he left this world. He had the kindest heart, teasing spirit and a generous nature that affected the lives of so many people. He had the best smile and would often show us a very exaggerated, toothy smile with a wink. He was so loved by everyone that he met.
He was born to Helen and Joseph E. Pfaff on October 9, 1931, and was second of 10 children, having 7 sisters and 2 brothers. He had an amazing, blessed life for almost 95 years.
Originally from Holland, he moved to Palm Bay, Florida with his wife where he resided for 29 years. He moved back to Ohio in 2023 where he lived with his daughter, Becky Jo making more wonderful memories.
His first outside job was with a jeweler, Mr. Jennings. He learned to repair watches and clocks with his Grandpa Pfaff. He did a stint at Kimble Glass and after was a driver for Toledo Merchandise. He then opened a grocery store with his wife and brother-in- law, Leonard. They first had Holland Cash & Carry and then expanded to J & L Market where they were known for their fantastic Meat Department. His Grandpa Herman taught him to be the best butcher around. After they sold their business, he was a semi driver for Foodtown until his retirement. He was a dedicated, highly valued worker for many years.
In his spare time, early on in Holland, he took many of the neighborhood kids to watch airplanes land, get ice cream, and look for UFO’s in his blue VW van. After retirement and his move to Palm Bay, he could be seen riding his 3 wheel bike for miles on end with his tiny dog, Joy, picking up all the nails in the road, keeping the roads in Shire Park free of debris. He also made sure that the kids in the park were cared for and made it to school every day. They called him Grandpa Joe and loved him dearly. We have received many testimonials from these kids.
Joe is survived by his beloved daughters, Joyce (Jim) Tinney, Barb (Rich) Boisselle, Becky (Doug) Helminiak, Robin (Scott) Gerding, 10 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, 12 Great Great Grandchildren with another expected in October, brother Charlie, and sisters Mary Jane, Jeanette, and Judy. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Joyce in 2001, his Grandaughter Becky Jo , Great Granddaughter Brandee with Great Great Grandson Xavier, sister’s Helen, Clara, Betty, Pat, and brother John.
