Judith “Judy” Barnett passed away on October 7, 2026, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, following a short illness. She was born on January 6, 1935, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to Frederick and Judith (Tench) Weinmann.
Judy was a spectacular woman who never stopped moving forward. A true go-getter, she approached life with determination, energy, and a spirit all her own. She graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1953, where she was a salutatorian and a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. She attended Indiana University, where she earned her degree in English and was a proud member of Delta Gamma sorority.
Judy spent many years in Kalamazoo, where she became an active and valued member of the community. She served as president of the Service Club and worked to support the Pretty Lake Summer Camp. She worked at First Congregational Church and the Bemis Barricade company.
Judy met Doug Barnett through her cousin David Weir, who arranged a blind date that would change her life. They married in 1982, beginning a new chapter together and blending their two families. Judy moved to Ann Arbor where she worked at Schlumberger and at the Mail Shoppe, a business owned by Doug and Judy.
Judy’s daughters, Nancy (Chris) and Lucy, became part of this new family alongside Doug and his children Trudi, Shelley (Mike) and Bill (Jennifer). The backyard swimming pool became the heart of their shared family life.
After retiring, Judy and Doug embraced their love of travel. They spent most winters at their home in Siesta Key, where they were active members on the board of Horizons West. Europe became another favorite destination, and together they traveled there 15 times, visiting nearly every country in Western Europe. Their adventures also included four cruises and they made it to all 50 of the United States. For 20 years, they enjoyed travel with Doug’s Army group.
Judy will be remembered for her strength, determination, generosity, and spirit. Her influence will live on in the lives of her family and friends and in the many memories they will carry with them.
Judy is survived by her beloved husband, Doug Barnett; her sister, Nancy Hill; her children, Nancy, Lucy, Trudi, Shelley, and Bill; nine grandchildren, Abby, Madeline, Tommy, Christina (Colin), Robby, Katie (Sam), Michael (Megan), Sarah, and John; and three great-grandchildren, Calder, Rhodes, and Brooks. She is also survived by her niece, Mary, her nephews Fritz and Geoffrey, and cousins David, Maggie, Elizabeth, and Holly.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Judith Weinmann, and her In-Laws, Stephen and Gerry Barnett.
A visitation will be held at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104, on October 11, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
A graveside service will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, Ann Arbor, MI 48104, on October 17, 2026, at 11:00 am.
