Julie Chapell Brabbs passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025 in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the age of 58. Julie was born to Tom and Dee Chapell on April 1, 1967 in Ann Arbor, and lived here her entire life. She earned an undergraduate degree from Miami University Ohio, and an MBA from Eastern Michigan University.
Julie was an amazing mother and wife, who created a family centered on affection, honesty, and unconditional love. Her children always came first, and she nurtured them to become beautiful, kind, and caring souls. She was also a beloved leader and skilled administrator throughout her career in roles at Pfizer in Ann Arbor, then the University of Michigan, where she served first as the Division Administrator for
Hematology/Oncology, then as the Chief Administrative Officer at the Rogel Cancer Center. She was the rare person who openly expressed love for colleagues and her team at work.
Julie was also very committed to serving the community. Despite challenges with her mobility in recent years, she and her husband, Steve volunteered for Meals on Wheels through UM. She also was a passionate supporter for a number of non-profit groups, notably the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor, and Swim Across America with whom she created an affiliation in support of the Rogel Cancer Center several years ago.
An avowed homebody, Julie nonetheless enjoyed camping, nature, and travelling with her family and friends. She was particularly fond of Sanibel Island and the Leelanau Peninsula, where she and her family have vacationed annually for over twenty five years.
Julie is survived by her husband, Stephen "Steve" W. Brabbs; her children, Stuart T. Brabbs (Penny Yang), and Lucy J. Brabbs; father Thomas "Tom" E. Chapell; brother Charles "Charlie" E. Chapell (Karen); and numerous nephews and nieces of the Brabbs and Chapell families.
A celebration of Julie's life will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church (120 S. State St., Ann Arbor, MI). Visitation from 11:00am-12:00pm and service at 12:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to 2025 Swim Across America "Motor City Mile", supporting the Rogel Cancer Center, or the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor.
