Mary Louise Glaser, 101, passed away on September 29, 2026, just after celebrating her 101st birthday. Known for her strong faith, love of family, and adventurous spirit, Mary lived a life filled with devotion, friendship, creativity, and countless memories shared with the people she loved.
Mary was born on September 6, 1925. She attended Ann Arbor High School and, demonstrating her determination and lifelong love of learning, returned to school at the age of 65 and earned her GED. She worked as a waitress at Gilmore’s and Curtis’s Restaurant before becoming a greeter at the South Squad Dorm for the University of Michigan. She retired at the age of 80.
Mary met the love of her life, Benjamin Glaser, and the two were married on February 23, 1970. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, and community. Their marriage was a lasting partnership filled with love and shared memories. They were often described as “two peas in a pod,” doing everything attached at the hip. Mary and Ben enjoyed dancing together, long road trips, and especially each other’s company.
Family was at the heart of Mary’s world. She treasured her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family, always taking an interest in their lives and celebrating their accomplishments. She was blessed with twenty-two great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren and cherished the special role she played in their lives. Her family extended far beyond her immediate household, and she maintained close ties with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Mary’s faith was another cornerstone of her life. She became a member of International Gospel in 1989, where she sang in the choir and was known as a prayer warrior for her children and grandchildren. Her faith was reflected in the way she cared for the people around her and in her commitment to her church family.
Mary had a wonderful sense of adventure. She enjoyed word-search books, painting, dancing, bingo, and spending time with friends and family. She was a member of the P.A.C.E. program for 11 years and had a host of friends within it. She was also known for being involved in every program imaginable, including the Grandmothers Association, where she formed many lasting friendships.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Benjamin Glaser; her children, Johnny Green, Linda Richardson, and Dollie Richardson; her grandchildren, Angie, Shalonda, Carla, Melinda, Kanda, Mack “JJ,” Ronnie, Kecha, Lydia, Mayua, Dollie M., and Marriah; her twenty-two great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Maddie Margaret Richardson and Jennistine Fields. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her children, Tyrone (Rocky) Richardson, and Sandy Richardson; her brothers, George Jr., Earl, Robert “Bob,” Larry, Jackie, Richard, and Tony; her sister, Juanita; and granddaughter, Shadonna.
